Happy spring! I know this is a little late but I used to do these edits all the time on my blog back in high school and college. I was very much inspired by UK bloggers like Viviana Does Makeup, Lily Pebbles, and more. Vivianna’s blog is now called The Anna Edit. Fitting, right?
Anyways, I don't know if the term edit in this context is a UK thing or just an aesthetic thing but either way I'm doing one today.
But if you're unaware, an edit is just a very fancy way of saying a blog post with a curated list of products, can be any products, for a specific reason. So obviously they're seasonal edits like this one. You can also do like a like a Halloween edit or a dark makeup edit.
I've always liked the term because I found it very chic, and I was very impressionable in high school.
I have the categories of my mood/mindset, makeup, hair, skin, fashion, and everything else. I also made these magazine-like design spreads featuring everything I talk about.
I hope you enjoy!
NOTE: I highly recommending using this spreadsheet or Boycott Witness to learn more about the brands that are affecting those already vulnerable. The spreadsheet linked says that Charlotte Tilbury is “potentially unsafe” for dropping Bella Hadid but that is false, Bella’s contract just ended with CT and she went on to launch her brand.
I do include discontinued products from MAC and Givenchy, and a continued product from Glossier. They are products I already own but I just wanted to be upfront and make sure everyone knows I am thinking about those in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, and other places. Feel free to share any similar products!
My Mood
For this section, I really wanted to talk about what I'm feeling for spring overall. I think this spring I'm very much in a makeup mood than anything.
I think you guys know I've done a couple beauty YouTube videos. Random but it is literally one of my dreams in life to just do that. I've also done a lot of makeup TikToks. And honestly, I really miss it. I want to practice makeup a lot more. I think I really fell off in the last few years, since 2021. Sadly, I feel like lost most of my skills.
I think for the past few years it's been really about minimal makeup, but I really miss doing heavier eye makeup from like the mid-2010s.
This spring, in general, I'm very open to trying new things and being more flexible rather than just doing the same stuff over and over again, which makes sense because I feel like with winter there's only so much you can do.
Makeup
For spring makeup, I have been in the mood to do more iridescent, shimmery makeup. I think I was really inspired by Ariana Grande's REM Beauty with its galactic, futuristic vibe.
Also, I noticed iridescent sparkly makeup — especially with more purplish tones — are getting really popular this spring and summer. I can see a lot of makeup products going viral just based on that aspect alone.
I actually filmed a makeup video for YouTube about a few months ago and it was a sparkly, frosty, iridescent makeup look and it came out really nice (but I scraped the video).
The products I used were shimmery grays and muted silvers. Then just to make the eye look pop, I would add a little bit of glitter on the center lid, which just elevated the makeup look 100x.
I really don't have like a present day makeup palette to recommend because the only makeup palette I use, with the muted silver and grays, is a Mac holiday palette from 2021*. It is called The Nutcracker Sweet Warm Eye Compact. I generally like this palette because it has colors that I don't have in any other palette or on my own in my collection, and it leans slightly warm. It is not made anymore but you can see product photos here.
*Ok, I just checked the date and it was actually released in 2016 (?) so I am literally off by five years
However, you can still get the glitter eye palette I use it's from Rom&nd and it's called the Better Than Palette in 00 Light and Glitter Garden. This palette is so gorgeous. It's just basically just pressed glitter and shimmer. It's a really popular Korean beauty product, and this brand in general has gotten really popular over the past two or three years. The glitter and shimmer are different sizes depending on the color. Some of them are just pure pressed glitter, some of them are more shimmery shadows, some of them are a mixture of both. However, something that I'm obsessed with is a few of the shadows have a larger, chunkier, hexagonal glitters, which reflect beautifully in light. My only thing with this palette is that sometimes glitters in cosmetics are not environmentally friendly, so I'm not very sure about this palette.
From the same brand, I have this lip gloss called Glasting Water Gloss in the shade #00 Meteor Tract. This is a really pretty clear lip gloss with silver and iridescent purple/blue shimmer in it. I really like the formulation of this lip gloss because it is more of a jelly texture, similar to the Givenchy Gloss Interdit Vinyl Lip Gloss in Nº01 Rose Révélateur. When it comes to clear glosses, I really love jelly-type formulas. They don’t move around a lot on your lips, and if you're applying it on top of another lip product, it's less likely to slide around and ruin the lip colors you applied underneath. Another element I love about the Water Gloss is that it has a silicone doe foot applicator. With a silicone doe foot applicator, I am able to apply the lip gloss directly on top on any already-applied lip color, clean the applicator with a tissue, and then put it back into the tube without worrying it will tint the clear gloss.
Another lip gloss I love is actually the Glossier Holographic Lip Gloss. I feel like this is the brand’s least popular gloss color, and to be very honest, I barely ever pull it. But it's very unique. It has a frosty white lip gloss base, but instead of the shimmers being iridescent blue/purple, it has a gold/gold-blue-green hue. When you look at the tube in the light, it's more of that gold/gold-blue-green color. But if you look at it in low lighting, it is actually more of a gold-purple-pink. It is actually really cool. I have just been liking to apply this when I want a holographic, iridescent finish for any lip look.
Finally I'm experimenting with other blush colors now and I think I'm low-key tired of my Dior Rosy Glow Blush, or any super viral blue-tone pink blushes. I've been opting for more unique colors I would never wear. The only blush I have that is a little bit different is The Saem Single Blusher in the color Blueberry Milk (PP04). This is really popular in the Asian Beauty World and it's basically like soft mauve, I would say. It's a muted mixture of baby pink and lilac. It's still pulls like a pink blush but it definitely does have a slight muted lilac tone to it, which makes it unique while still being wearable.
Ok I yapped enough about makeup.
Haircare
So if you are a follower of my podcast, I think I mentioned I lost a lot of hair in 2024. I go through these like these periods of hair shedding but I have noticed in the past month that my hair has gotten thicker, longer, and is returning to normal. So I'm not necessarily looking for anything really to change with my hair.
I cut my own hair, but I would love to get my hair cut by somebody this season.
As for vibes, I guess I'll try to get it healthier but I don't know I don't know for spring what I really want to do with my hair. I think I've been really into the mermaid hair look. Which is very prominent wavy long hair, like Desi Perkins does here.
I want to control my frizz. My hair by no means is frizzy but I do notice it when I'm doing beauty photography. Even on Eid, I did like an Ariana Grande half-up half-down look, and I felt like my hair was really frizzy and slightly poofy. Granted, I do think I might have blow dried it the night before but didn't really put any heat on it the day of to flatten it. But looking back I should have used my Color Wow Dream Coat thing to make it more manageable because I did feel like my hair was going all over the place on my face, which drives me nuts.
Also, I want to learn how to do more hairstyles and also use more hair accessories. I bought a bunch of hair accessories from YesStyle for my YouTube videos to help elevate the makeup looks and they're super cute. They're mainly bows lol but I want to use more of those.
So I guess all in all I'm aiming for less frizzy hair, maybe mermaid waves, and using hair accessories.
Skincare
Skincare: I don't know. Early spring where I live can still be really dry and cold, but it's warming up really nicely so far.
I think my skin care focus is definitely going to be keeping up with an oil-control routine. I really fell off in winter. Granted, my skin was super dry but using a weekly sheet mask and clay mask really helps my skin stay my skin stay hydrated but then also clear any clogged pores.
The products I am using are the CORSRX Snail Mucin Sheet Mask and Innisfree Volcanic Clay Mask.
Other than that, the product my dermatologist gave me are doing really well so I don't necessarily think I need to change any of them, but I do need to find a new face lotion and I need to buy like a cosmetic-finish sunscreen. I’ll probably go with Byoma.
Fashion
With spring, I love wearing pastels — especially pink! I love like wearing something like a pink sweater and then having it match with a pink blush. Even though I just dogged on bright pink blushes like five paragraphs ago.
I need to find a good pair of jeans because I've only been wearing are sweatpants. Like the other day, I went to my friend's birthday party. It was at a coffee shop downtown and I was tired so I wore sweatpants. The top set was pretty cute, and the entire outfit like went together pretty well. Which reminds me, the top I was wearing was perfect for Spring. I was wearing a long sleeve cream turtleneck and over it, I wore this pastel yellow FEAR OF GOD sweater vest I got from ssense a few months ago. So cute, perfect for spring.
Everything Else
For everything else, I don't really think I have anything to include because this edit is already so long since, and it has been a long time since I have done an edit. My mind has not fully remembered how to write one of these.
With spring, I'm always reminded of one of my favorite shoujo animes. It is called Cardcaptor Sakura, and actually I think late March or early April was when it first premiered in 1998. Which makes it 27, just like me. It's such a lovely anime. I think it's really comparable to Sailor Moon based on the plot movement. With both animes, each episode is formatted the same, but it's still always interesting and I never get bored with the character/story/villains. I can write an entire post about this show.
I think I mentioned already but I've been into walking in the morning a part of my morning routine. Right after breakfast I grab my coffee, and I go on a walk. While I'm walking, I listen to affirmations, which has been a really nice start to the day.
What are you using and doing for spring? Let me know in the comments-
